About Dr Sara Mahan, PhD

Experience

Dr. Sara Mahan enjoys and has worked with many toddlers, children, teenagers, and their caregivers/parents, as well as some adults, to help reach goals and enhance quality of life in a collaborative manner. She has expertise for autism evaluations (for all types of presentations and for all ages).

Education and training

Dr. Sara Mahan earned her doctorate (PhD) in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University where she provided diagnostic assessment for Developmental Disabilities (such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities) for individuals of all ages as well as comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations (assessing for ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Anxiety among others). She enjoyed and still enjoys working with people to help them learn more about themselves/their children. She also provided treatment for a variety of presenting concerns.

Dr. Sara completed her Predoctoral Internship at Marcus Autism Center, part of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), where she gained further expertise in assessing and treating a variety of concerns such as those related to communication, socialization, daily living skills, academic skills, behavior problems, sleep, toileting, and feeding.

Dr. Sara completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at Marcus Autism Center through Emory University School of Medicine, gaining further expertise in working with those with a Developmental Disability or behavioral difficulties and their caregivers and teachers.

Dr. Sara Mahan also provides workshops on various topics. She has provided workshops for Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, Hispanic Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, Friendship Circle of Atlanta, and FOCUS.

Adjunct Professor

Dr. Sara Mahan was an adjunct professor for the psychology clinical psychology doctoral program at Georgia School of Professional Psychology where she taught Child and Adolescent Psychopathology and Lifespan Development.

MEMBERSHIPS

Dr. Sara Mahan is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and Georgia Psychological Association (GPA). She was the prior Chair of the Early Career of Psychologists Committee for Georgia Psychological Association and through GPA currently runs a consult group for licensed psychologists in the state of GA.
